AmanahKit: Offline Digital Khata
AmanahKit is Compile Vision's native Android product: an offline-first digital khata for small businesses. Multi-business profiles, trade-aware invoices, customer ledgers, sales/payments/udhaar/loans/amanah, PDF slips, and local backup, in English, Urdu, and Hindi. Built with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and Room; no internet required.
Architecture & workflows
How this product is architected and how users move through the app.
System architecture
100% offline. Compose UI over a local data layer: on-device database, preferences, and files. No cloud required.
Core user journey
From language and trade setup to ledgers, PDF slips, and local backup, plus due-date reminders on device.
How the pieces fit
| Flow | What happens |
|---|---|
| Offline-first | All ledger data stays on the device. No cloud account or internet required to run the shop diary. |
| Multi-business | Switch between shop profiles; each business keeps its own people and records. |
| Trade-aware invoices | Profession templates for local trades (general store, milk shop, tailor, technician, and more). |
| Ledger types | Sales, payments, expenses, loans, and amanah (trust held), each tracked with clear party balances. |
| PDF slips | Branded receipt layouts shared via WhatsApp or any app through the Android share sheet. |
| Locales & themes | English, Urdu, and Hindi in-app; Light, Dark, or System theme. |
| Backup & reminders | Local backup and restore, plus on-device due-date and amanah reminders. |
| Privacy | On-device data only. See the AmanahKit Privacy Policy for details. |
Challenge
Small shopkeepers still rely on paper khata. Cloud ledger apps need internet, feel complex, and often lack strong Urdu/Hindi support for everyday South-Asian trades.
How we did it
We shipped a fully offline Android app with Jetpack Compose and Material 3: trade templates for local professions, cash-flow analytics on device, branded PDF slips via the system share sheet, local backup and restore, and due-date reminders, with amanah treated as trust held, not shop cash.
Outcome
Merchants get a trustworthy on-device diary: fully offline operation, profession-aware invoice fields, shareable PDF receipts for WhatsApp or print, light/dark/system themes, and clear ledgers for customers, lenders, and amanah. Suited to general stores, milk shops, tailors, technicians, and similar small businesses.
